Two-year-old Joey has cerebral palsy and quadriplegia, affecting both his body and face. Sensory problems make him very uncomfortable when exposed to grass, sand, snow… The sea is also quite scary for Joey.
Understanding Joey’s problem, the charity Beach Ability Ingoldmells provided a large wheelchair that can move on the beach to help the boy experience the feeling of playing in the ocean.
At Ingoldmells beach in Lincolnshire (UK), Joey was very happy playing in the sea. Joey’s mother, Helen Butterfield, filmed her young son’s excitement as the ocean water rushed over him. The mother of three said seeing her children’s reactions was one of the most special moments in her life. “Honestly, Joey has never laughed so much” – said Ms. Helen Butterfield.
Joey was born prematurely at 27 weeks, weighing only 1.17kg and unable to support his body. In addition, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and quadriplegia. However, with his mother’s love and care, Joey’s health gradually improved. Although he is allergic to many things, Joey especially loves water.
