Every time Ms. Luan had a burning pain due to an alcohol burn, Mr. Quyet’s intestines felt like they were falling apart. In his mind, he always thought of and loved his wife who was fighting the disease every day to regain her life.
During the past few days, since Ms. Le Thi Cong Luan (26 years old, from Hoang Ngoc commune, Hoang Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province) unfortunately suffered severe alcohol burns, Mr. Hoang Minh Quyet (26 years old, Ms. Luan’s husband) stayed up all night taking care of his wife. Seeing his wife in pain, he himself also felt pain, his heart was confused, he could only scratch his head and blame himself and blame her fate for being too cruel.
Sitting on the bench, Mr. Quyet tried to hide his fatigue after more than a week of taking care of his wife at the hospital. He said that today, she had just undergone surgery to remove the necrotic flesh and was in a coma, making him not dare to leave. He was always by his side, monitoring his wife’s situation. .
Thinking back to the past, he told us about his and his wife’s dreamlike love story. “I still remember the first time I met Luan. Back then, at the end of 2011, I was drinking water with my friends at Nga Tu So (Thanh Xuan district) when I met Luan. At that time, she studied in the South and came out here to work. Luan in my eyes is a girl who is friendly, kind, and has a bright smile. Right from the first sight, I loved and looked attentively at Luan. Seeing me looking, she quickly looked away. But my heart told me to come and start a conversation and ask for a phone number,” Mr. Quyet recalled.
He emotionally said: “After that, Luan returned to Ho Chi Minh City to study and work. Having a phone number, I started boldly asking questions and chatting. Many times like that, we developed feelings and loved each other without realizing it. At that time, they loved each other, but neither of them dared to propose. She is studying, working part-time, and participating in Youth Union activities at school, so she is very busy. And I also started working as a chef for Military Hospital 108, so there seemed to be no time to meet each other. Luckily, we only see each other once every half a year, so we both miss each other very much.”
With tears in his eyes, Mr. Quyet became emotional as he remembered the day he proposed his love. “I still clearly remember the time she came out here to play. The two of them took each other to Thu Le Park for a walk and this was also the first time Luan had the opportunity to visit the zoo in the Capital. Hanging out together was so fun that we both forgot about time. That evening, I boldly proposed my love and was so happy when she accepted.”
Recalling old memories, Mr. Quyet’s eyes sparkled with joy: “She said she loved me because she hated my look from the first time. Through the happy days of love until now, to me Luan is the most wonderful girl. She knows how to take care of everything, is mature at work, helps everyone and takes good care of her family.”
Since the day his wife was seriously burned and was in the isolation room at the Intensive Care Department, National Burn Institute, he never dared to leave her side. “My wife unfortunately got burned partly because of me. Over the past few days, it seems like I’ve been staying up all night looking after her. Seeing my wife in pain, I can only encourage her to try to overcome it and recover quickly.”
According to Mr. Quyet, because the burn was more than 80% severe, water was leaking all over her body and seeping through the cotton, so every time the doctor removed the bandage, Ms. Luan had to scream in pain. “There was a lot of water leaking out so I had to use a dryer to dry it. The heat of the dryer causes Luan pain, but if he doesn’t dry it, too much water will flow out and it can easily become infected. Even though I was tired after taking care of my wife all day, I couldn’t sleep. Every time I woke up, Luan would startle and cry out in pain, making me worry and love my wife even more” – Mr. Quyet choked up.
Mr. Quyet affirmed: “No matter what happens to Luan in the future, I will always be the man who protects and loves my wife for the rest of my life. What she sacrificed and gave to me is too much.” There is nothing in this world that can be exchanged. I only wish for one thing: my wife recovers from her accident soon so that we can take care of each other. That is the greatest happiness for me.”
Sharing about her sister, Ms. Le Thi Minh Man (24 years old, Luan’s younger sister) sadly said: “The day I heard that my sister was burned, I rushed from work to visit her. When I got there, I was stunned and almost didn’t recognize her anymore. Her head was shaved, her body was swollen and her body was bandaged all over.”
“Every time you have an attack, I can’t hold back my tears. But then I also tried to encourage her. I told her that a while ago I also had an accident, no one was by my side, I was also in a lot of pain but I still tried to endure the pain so I also had to try to get over it. After saying that, her eyes were filled with tears and I couldn’t hold back, but I didn’t dare cry because I was afraid she would get hurt and it would affect her health” – Man said while crying.
Pausing for a long time to suppress her sobs, Man continued: “When I was a student, I also went to her school and joined the volunteer team with her. Ms. Luan at that time was the commander of the exam season relay programs. She is always energetic, enthusiastic, at the forefront of movements, and enthusiastic about helping people. She was a gentle and beautiful person, so everyone loved her. Seeing you like this now, I feel so sad. Every time the bandage is changed, each layer of bandage sticks to the flesh. The doctors have to slowly peel it off, but she is still in a lot of pain. Sometimes she is startled, making everyone in the family feel pain.”
