A SEVEN-year-old girl whose face “melted” after her dad doused her in acid in a jealous attack on his wife has finally received her first operation four years later.
Brave Julie Kumari, from Fatehpur, in Uttar Pradesh, India, was just four years old when she was hit with the chemical as her dad Manish aimed for her mum.
She was left with severe burns to her face, arm, neck and chest but because of her mum’s poor salary, she was never offered any surgery.
But Julie has finally been offered a ray of hope after a charity that helps acid attack survivors offered to get her admitted to hospital free of charge.
The help from Alok Singh and his team from the Chhanv Foundation meant the schoolgirl had her first surgery three months ago.
Medics operated on the skin contracted around her neck so she could actually move her head, and next month she will have further surgery on her left eye.
Julie will also have plastic surgery on her face to correct the deformities.
Mum Rani, who earns just £2 a day, said: “I’m so happy that good people exist on this earth. The fact one person came forward and helped my child with her treatment is just amazing. I can never thank them enough.”
In May 2013, fuming Manish, 40, flew into a jealous rage after Rani left him and re-married.
He intended to pour acid on the mum and her new husband as they slept but he ended up covering Julie and her sister Lal, who eventually died from infection.
Julie suffered 40 per cent burns – affecting the majority of her upper body – and Rani had to sell her farm to pay for the hospital fees.
But doctors discharged her within ten days saying she’ll be scarred for life and there was nothing more they could do.

Rani said: “It’s been devastating watching her suffer all these years. It used to hurt her to eat, talk and smile.
“Everything was a struggle for her. And it killed me inside that I couldn’t help her.”
Alok Singh said: “When we were creating a database of acid attack cases in each district in India we come to know about Julie.
“We decided to visit her but when we first saw her we were shocked to see how bad a condition she was in.
“They were living in a one-room house with no electricity and she’d never had any treatment over all these years. It was tragic.
“But now, treatment has begun and things can only get better for her. She’s now preparing to undergo more surgeries over the coming months.
