Doctors have been left stunned by the incredible recovery
A PAIR of twins who were conjoined at the head have been separated after a life-changing 27-hour surgery.
The siblings, who were conjoined at the crown of their head, have made a remarkably rapid recovery.
Anias and Jadon McDonald, 13 months, have finally seen each other front-on for the first time after the life-threatening operation in October.
The moment must have been pretty overwhelming for the adorable twins, who were pictured staring at each other with opened mouths.
Just six weeks after the serious surgery, Anias and Jadon are preparing to be moved to a rehabilitation facility together.
Their incredible recuperation steps are being celebrated as the quickest recovery time for the separation of craniopagus twins (siblings that are conjoined at the head).
To the joy of their friends and family, Jadon is already able to move around.
A video shows him happily playing with his bandages, to the entertainment of everyone crowding around him.
Despite the struggle, his surgeon Dr Philip Goodrich is optimistic that Anias will pull through.
In an interview with CNN, he said: “Separating the two is probably not a good idea at this point.”
More than £177,000 was raised for the boys’ life-changing surgery, which they travelled to the Bronx from Chicago for.
The extremely rare operation costed a total of £2 million.
After Jadon was wheeled out of surgery, the mum shared a photo of her tiny son in his hospital bed.
She said: “When they told me they were wheeling Jadon up first, it took me a second to comprehend.
“I actually asked why they rearranged the room because I hadn’t really internalised the idea there would be two beds in here.”
As both of the twins made it into the ward, Nicole shared a snap of her boys in recovery.
She wrote: “Finally reunited. How surreal. I now realise I always saw you as separate because seeing you like this is really nothing different to me.
“When I stand at your bedside, Jadon, it’s almost as if Anias is still there. Anias, when I leaned over you I protected my hair from Jadon.
“But the view is still the same. This is how I always saw you. I love you so much.”
