For nearly 4 years, the people of old group 13 (now group 8), Song Bang ward, Cao Bang city have become accustomed to the image of Hoang Thi Hong Nhung’s sister (born 1972) suffering from cancer, taking care of her brother Hoang. Minh Tuyen (born 1969) is bedridden.
Originally from Bao Lac district, Nhung and her brother followed their parents to Cao Bang city to settle down. But then after a series of incidents they found themselves homeless and suffering from many illnesses.
Ms. Nhung said, before 2019, Mr. Tuyen was still very healthy, he often worked as a porter in factories and brick factories. But after 2019, he continued to weaken and after two strokes, now he is bedridden. All daily activities, eating and drinking are taken care of by Ms. Nhung.

Mr. Hoang Van Tuyen used to have a small family (1 wife, 1 child), however, when his biological mother became ill and was bedridden, the family’s finances declined, the wife took the children away and cut off contact.
“In 2020, when my health was deteriorating, I went to the doctor and was informed that I had stage 2 ovarian cancer. I borrowed money for treatment everywhere. Up to now, I still buy medication every month to maintain it” – Ms. Nhung shared. shall.
The economy was already difficult and illness plagued both brothers. In 2021, Ms. Nhung had to call someone to sell the house her parents left behind to pay off debt and have money to treat her brother and herself. Ms. Nhung also lived there, never once married.
Selling the house, Ms. Nhung could not rent the house, every landlord refused. “They saw that someone in our house was seriously ill, Mr. Tuyen was too weak and could die at their house, so they didn’t want to rent it to me” – Ms. Nhung’s voice was bitter.

Unfortunately, they had to stay in the old cultural house of Group 13, Song Hien ward, but now they are about to return it to the neighborhood group to repair and use.
“Each month, Mr. Tuyen receives about 700,000 VND from the state. As a caregiver, I receive about 300,000 VND more. Every day, I sell lottery tickets to earn an extra few dozen, which is all the income for 2 brothers live together” – Ms. Nhung added.
According to Ms. Nhung, a friend of Mr. Tuyen will sell a piece of land of about 45m2 to the two of them , however, the cost of 200 million VND is too much for her. Recently, Ms. Nhung also suffered from coronary artery stenosis, requiring frequent trips to Hanoi for examination, medication, and heart stent placement.
Talking to reporters, representatives of the People’s Committee of Song Bang ward said that the circumstances of Mr. Tuyen and Ms. Nhung are very difficult, they belong to poor households. Every year, on holidays and Tet, organizations also more or less provide material support and spiritual encouragement to the two brothers.
