Africa is a land famous for its huge wildlife and many rare plants and trees. When talking about this magical continent of Africa, many people will think of mysterious tribes waiting for people to discover.
Primitive tribes in Africa often live in dense forests and have never had contact with the outside world. In fact, primitive tribes have now become a major feature of Africa and they have also formed unique customs and languages.

Many people will be surprised by the rituals and many aspects of life that make outsiders feel a bit barbaric. For example, the custom of being nude for beauty or injuring certain parts of the body to complete inheritance and maturation rituals. And the most especially strange thing is that the human tribe has only two toes on each foot. They are called “ostrich people” who live in Zimbabwe.
The people of this tribe also know the reason why their legs are so deformed, but they never want to come into contact with people in the outside world.
A tribe called Vadoma lives in the Zambezi River basin in Zimbabwe and Botswana. This was once a forgotten place and people only discovered it not long ago.
The reason why the Vadoma people are called “ostrich people” is because of their different appearance. At first glance, the Vadoma tribe doesn’t look much different until you look down at their feet. Normally the foot will have 5 toes but they only have 2 toes, it is very eccentric and is compared to the feet of an ostrich.
With these special legs, the people of Vadoma do not encounter any obstacles or troubles, on the contrary, they are very good at climbing trees. However, the weakness is that they cannot wear shoes whether in hot or cold weather.
With these special legs, many scientists as well as many other people want to find out the reason. So there are many theories about this issue. Some people believe that their ancestors are not from Earth but from another planet, shaped like birds. Humans and this bird-like creature may have bred together and produced offspring with feet like ostrich claws.

As for scientists, they think this is a variation. They believe that the cause may be due to inbreeding among tribal people. If relatives marry and have inbreeding, they will give birth to a deformed baby. This phenomenon is hereditary, so most people in the tribe have ostrich feet.
Although this foot structure is particularly strange, it is not unique to the Vadoma tribe. It has appeared in many parts of the world and is called “lobster claw syndrome”. The person who named this ethnic group’s feet was based on the idea that the heel was deformed to look like a lobster’s claws.
For the people of the Vadoma tribe, they feel it is not a disease at all, they even think it is a gift from heaven and do not leave the tribe.
But if the people of these tribes leave the tribe and go to the outside world, this symptom will disappear after a few generations.
The VaDoma people speak Chikunda (a form of Turkish) and Kore Kore – the dialect of the Mkorekore tribe. They live in the West of Zimbabwe, mostly in Urungwe and Sipolilo districts on the Zambezi River valley, mainly hunting, trapping wild animals, fishing, picking wild fruits, and collecting honey…
VaDoma people are usually naked, other than a small piece of cloth covering their genitals. Women often carry children on their backs, and men wear thin loincloths. Later, when some people in the tribe came into contact with the outside, they began to change their costumes, wear clothes and equip some accessories to support daily life.
Isolated from human civilization, with no schools or medical services, the people of Vadoma still seem to be very satisfied with their current life. However, for decades, the indigenous VaDoma people have still refused to integrate with other minority communities in Zimbabwe, despite being given many opportunities by local authorities.
Perhaps that is also the reason why the Ostrich tribe still exists intact today.
