“Wearing” two giant tumors on his face, causing his face to be deformed, patient Ly Mui Xien (born 1968, in Cao Bang) is being cared for by doctors at Central Hospital before major surgery.
Doctor Nguyen Quoc Bao, Head of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, Central K Hospital, said that patient Ly Mui Xien (born 1968 in Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province) was hospitalized with 2 giant tumors on his face that caused his face to become discolored. Deformed, his eyes rolled back and were pushed up to his forehead, making his eyes unable to see the road clearly.
The patient was diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia of the jaw and face. The results of a computed tomography scan showed that the maxillofacial area had many tumors, in which a large tumor measuring 8x11x18 cm developed from the upper jaw and palatine bone was a collection of many small, invasive tumors. compresses and destroys the eye sockets on both sides, nasal bones… These tumors have a heterogeneous structure, containing fibrous tissue fluid and calcification.
According to Dr. Bao, because the tumor grew too large, it pushed the eyes outside the skull, causing the optic nerves to be stretched and compressed. But a very fortunate thing is that this tumor does not damage the brain or cause bleeding in the brain or meninges.
Patient Xien is married and currently has 4 children. According to the patient’s family, after giving birth to her third child, she continuously had toothache. She picked leaves from a forest tree, boiled them and applied them to the painful area, but the pain did not decrease. Instead, her cheeks began to swell and from then on the tumor continued to grow.
Doctor Bao said that the patient is currently receiving care and treatment to improve his health because his body is very weak. The surgery is expected to be performed next week. “We plan to prepare about 6 units of blood and necessary consumables to conduct this special surgery. This is not the first time we have received patients with this condition. Previously, in 2007, the hospital performed tumor removal for 5 siblings in a family in Thai Nguyen who also had fibrous dysplasia in the jaw and face. Currently, the health of these patients is stable and the tumor has not shown any signs of recurrence. Although this surgery is much more complicated, with experience from previous surgeries, I hope the patient will have good results” – Dr. Bao shared.
Previously, in July 2007, with the support of readers, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper helped bring these 5 patients to Central K Hospital for examination and surgery. Patient Luc Thi Hai, who had a large tumor weighing 7 kg in a family of 5 children of Mr. Luc Van Quan and Ms. Truong Thi Nam (in Phu Binh district, Thai Nguyen province) suffered from primary dysplasia. The jawbone and face were successfully removed.
After 3 times of tumor removal and orthopedic surgery, patient Luc Thi Hai can completely confidently integrate into life. In addition, 4 other cases, siblings of patient Hai, also had their tumors successfully removed by KV doctors.
From where Mr. Quan’s children had to live in the forest, isolated far away from the village because of a “strange disease”, to now, 8 years after surgery, these patients have integrated into life. went to school and worked. Among these are Luc Thi Hai, the patient with the largest tumor, and a younger brother who is married and has a healthy child .
